Letters from Lodi
An insightful and objective look at viticulture and winemaking from the Lodi
Appellation and the growers and vintners behind these crafts. Told from the
perspective of multi-award winning wine journalist, Randy Caparoso.

Photo-memories from Lodi's 2025 Wine & Chocolate Weekend, proving to be more popular than ever!

The news, according to a local ABC correspondent, is that "Lodi's Wine and Chocolate Weekend events went on as planned, highlighting the wines the region has to offer."
This was plain as day throughout Saturday the 15th, as wine and chocolate lovers went from winery to winery to savor the local wares. It was quite the spectacle: From irresistibly cuddly 1-week old baby goats at Spenker Family Farm and laughing crowds taking selfies against a "Freakshow" backdrop at Michael David Winery, to gentlemen attired in bright red suits festooned with hearts at m2 Winery and rows of limousines at Berghold Vineyards, dropping off entire parties of celebrants, hopping out with hearts aflutter, anticipaing the taste of wines from barrels and bottles with, of course, lots and lots of chocolates.

At the "Winemakers Toast" taking place the following Sunday at Wine & Roses Hotel, Lodi wine buffs enjoyed a more luxurious settling with a gourmet brunch. Said one Lodi producer, "It's really good to see, especially people going for a lot of sparkling wines made here in Lodi."
According to the ABC reporter:
At Wine & Roses more than 20 Lodi area wineries poured glasses and pitched sales at Sunday morning's Winemakers Toast ... "Shoot, if they were selling bottles here, I would take a bottle from every booth," said Turlock resident Kam Dhesi who visited Lodi for the event. "I mean, there's something I've found that I like at every place here."

Making mention of recent news about the American wine industry in general facing a "troubling [economic] downturn," ABC interviewed one of the visitors who drove an hour to enjoy the delectables at Wine & Roses Hotel:
"I wouldn't detect, based on this event, that there were any challenges in the winemaking community," said Maricella Flores of Mountain House, who traveled to Lodi for the toast. "I didn't know anything about that, so that's actually interesting."
In other words, for many wine lovers Lodi wines are better than ever—at least in terms of the only thing that counts, which is the pure pleasures that they give, stimulating both the mind and palate. That said, photo-memories of the past weekend...
