A hundred and sixty years ago, Joseph Spenker came west and found the perfect place to grow things right here. And of the many things he planted, winegrapes did exceptionally well. So well, in fact, that many of these original vines are still here, giving Lodi the distinction of having the largest collection of old growth vineyards in North America. Heat by day; cooling breezes at night, and plenty of water. These are the elements needed to grow good winegrapes. Add rich alluvium soils carried down from the Sierras and good becomes exceptional. Situated on a bend of the Mokelumne river, directly across from the Carquinez Straights on the outer reaches of the California delta—this is it: X marks the spot.
