The relatively cool Mokelumne Glen Vineyards in Lodi is the only source of the rare Kerner grape in California. It is the central base for this field blend of whites. Abundant aromatics leap from the glass, telegraphing what’s to come, which is loads of fruit, like green apple, grapefruit and maybe vanilla and lemongrass, all on top of a refreshing bed of acidity expressing as lingering lime zest.
There is some weight on the palate with notable concentration, while still being crisp and easy-drinking. Underlying all is beeswax and a touch of classic old-world-like minerality. Thinking of food, whatever you eat that benefits from a squeeze of lemon would work very well with Nativo. Ceviche or a sunset dinner on the beach with flame-grilled newly-landed fish would be perfect.
