Diverse Varieties
With 125 varieties in production, Lodi is the most diverse winegrowing region in the United States and has long been the leading producer of many of California’s top varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, and others. Together with its innovative wingrowers, Lodi’s moderate Mediterranean climate and classic soil types for high quality viticulture contribute to a culture of experimentation and a plethora of varieties. Included among them are Spanish (Albariño, Verdejo, Graciano, Tempranillo, Garnacha, and others), Portuguese (Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cão, Souzão, Verdelho, Tricadeira, and others), Italian (Barbera, Aglianco, Sangiovese, Teroldego, Vermentino, and others), German (Kerner, Bacchus, Riesling, Dornfelder, Gewürztraminer, Zweigelt, and others), and Rhône (Cinsault, Viognier, Syrah, Picpoul Blanc, Tannat, and others) varieties. For winemakers and wine lovers looking for discovery, there’s no place like Lodi.
