Harmony Wynelands / Winemaker
WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MEMORY OF WINE AND HOW DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A WINEMAKER?
When I was a sophomore at the University of California Santa Barbara, I visited my mother and her husband in Lodi where they were growing winegrapes. At this time, Lodi was becoming more prominent in making wine. In 1997, my mother and her husband opened a tasting room and released their first vintage of old vine Zinfandel. I was hooked.
WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR IN YOUR CAREER?
Two winemakers come to mind: Chad Joseph, who taught me the fundamentals of winemaking, and Franck Lambert, who taught me the importance of paying attention to the details and how to refine my wines.
HOW HAS THE LODI WINE REGION CHANGED OVER THE YEARS OR SINCE YOU’VE BEEN HERE?
The number of wineries in the area, the reputation of the Lodi wine region, and the quality of wines produced here as grown rapidly.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IRRATIONAL FEARS OR SUPERSTITIONS AS THEY RELATE TO YOUR JOB?
Not really, only that the vineyard must have good vibes.
