Costa & Costa Farms / Vineyard Operations

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY BEEN FARMING WINEGRAPES?
My stepdad, Pat Costa, started farming on his own as Costa & Costa Farms in 1981 and has been farming winegrapes in Lodi since 1991. I have been farming with him since 2010.

HOW MANY ACRES DO YOU FARM AND WHICH VARIETIES DO YOU GROW?
We currently farm 150 acres of winegrapes in Lodi including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU’D LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT LODI?
Lodi is a beautiful town with an awesome community which supports it. Every grower, winery, etc. desires to represent Lodi in the best light. You can feel the passion that people in the agricultural industry have for their work and product. This passion creates a top-notch experience and brings people back again and again.

I FARM BECAUSE…
Simple: I enjoy it. I love working outside all day and could never imagine going back in time and ending up with an office job. I take great pride in the crops we produce year in and year out. At the end of the day, I’m proud of the way farmers provide for people across the country and throughout the world.

WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR IN YOUR CAREER? WHY?
My stepdad, Pat Costa. Without him, I never would have stepped foot into the agricultural world. Now, more than a decade has passed, and still, I continue to learn so much from him. My future in Lodi’s agricultural industry rests upon the foundation he helped me to build.

WHAT ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE CENTER CONSOLE OR GLOVEBOX OF YOUR TRUCK OR CAR?
Refractometer, flagging tape, pruning shears, gloves, a scouting hand lens, and a pocketknife.
